S.O.S. - JOIN THE CAMPAIGN TO HELP SAVE OUR SCHOOLS
STATE BUDGET STILL IN LIMBO
WE NEED TO MAINTAIN EFFORTS TO STOP CUTS TO SCHOOLS
At this writing, the State budget remains unresolved. See Governor Brown's video above for the latest. TALB members have been advocating for months to stop the additional cuts to schools that could come as a part of next year’s state budget. Community walks, conversations with parents at Open House, calls to lawmakers, and attendance at rallies in LA and Long Beach, have all served to keep the pressure on. Thank you for this great work on behalf of our schools.
As Summer approaches, so does the budget deadline…so we need to keep up the effort. In the coming days, we will keep mounting the pressure for a fair budget. There are concerted efforts in the areas represented by targeted Republicans to get them to swing their vote in favor of a budget to protect schools. While we are not in one of those target areas, last week TALB, hosted 25 community members phone banking Republican Tom Harmon’s district. We made hundreds of calls to frequent voters in Harmon’s area and asked them to call him and support a fair budget. All of us need to continue to call our lawmaker (targeted or not) to keep up the pressure for a fair resolution that protects schools.
Here are a few things every TALB member can do right now to help influence lawmakers and encourage a budget that protects schools:
Stay updated in the Summer. If you have not already provided TALB with your personal email address, you can do so by emailing Eric at eric@talb.org (if you did not get this UPDATE electronically, you will know that we do not have your updated email address, and you need to get it to us).
Please sign up below if you want to join our database and stay informed on the budget and join in future actions. In addition to TALB members, any concerned member of the Long Beach schools family is encouraged to join the effort and sign-up.
