Teachers, Nurses, Speech Pathologists and Librarians Endorse Megan Kerr, Juan Benitez, and Diana Craighead for Long Beach School Board

Long Beach, California: On Tuesday, September 27, 2017, Teachers Association of Long Beach, which includes teachers, nurses, speech pathologists and librarians, voted overwhelmingly to endorse Megan Kerr for school board in Area 1, Juan Benitez for school board in Area 3 and Diana Craighead in school board Area 5.

“Ms. Kerr and Ms. Craighead have been strong advocates for public education. They have demonstrated their commitment to our community, parents, and school staff with their steady leadership,” said Barry Welsch, President of the Teachers Association of Long Beach.   Added Welsch, “We are fortunate that Mr. Benitez, a deep-rooted Long Beach resident and educator, has chosen to run for school board Area 3. It was an easy decision to support these three candidates.”
The School Board election is scheduled for April 10th, 2018. TALB Represents 3,700 teachers, nurses, speech pathologists, and librarians.

The 2014-15 State Budget provides a plan to fully fund the CalSTRS Defined Benefit Program by July 1, 2046, that is based on shared responsibility among all parties with increased contributions from the State, the employers, and the employees.
